Induratio penile plastica can feel like a major interference in both your sex life and your identity, but you are far from alone – and there are solutions. In this article, you’ll get a clear overview of what Induratio penis plastica is, why it occurs, what symptoms you should know, and how it affects both erection and quality of life. I explain how I diagnose and treat the condition with shockwave, EMTT and targeted counseling to help you regain control, confidence and pleasure in your sex life. By reading on, you will not only gain knowledge, but also concrete possibilities and hope to get your body and manhood back.
Induratio penis plastica is a condition where scar tissue in the penis leads to curvature, pain and erectile dysfunction, but there is effective treatment and help.
International speaker & expert in shockwave and EMTT treatment for erectile dysfunction, peyronies & CPPPS.
Induratio penis plastica – also known as Peyronie’s disease – is a condition where scar tissue (hard plaque) or thickening forms in the connective tissue of the penis shaft. This can cause curvature, pain, a shorter penis and problems with erection. For many men, it feels both physically uncomfortable and psychologically devastating: shame, fear for the future and anxiety about the relationship are common reactions.
I work with men every day who are right where you might be right now: unsure, worried and unsure of what’s wrong – and if it can even get better. It often can, especially when you get targeted knowledge and treatment in time.
Induratio penis plastica is a chronic connective tissue disease of the penis in which thickenings occur in the tissue around the swelling bodies. These thickenings are typically made of scar tissue (plaque), which makes the tissue less elastic. When you get an erection, the part of the penis where the scar tissue is located cannot stretch like the rest – and a curvature or deformity occurs.
The condition can develop gradually over months, often with pain and a feeling of “tightness”, and later stabilize. However, without help, it can continue to affect sexuality, confidence and desire for intimacy. Many people start avoiding sex or intimacy to avoid discomfort and worry – and this takes its toll on both you and any relationship.
The most common symptoms of Induratio penis plastica are:
Many men with Induratio penis plastica also experience more general pelvic discomfort: soreness, tension, stabbing or grinding pain in the crotch, around the bladder or rectum. This is often related to the body tightening up around an area that hurts and feels wrong. It’s always important to get an ultrasound scan if you suspect IPP and peyronies. I can help you with that.
I also meet many people who describe a feeling that the penis no longer feels “like their own” – as if contact with the area has changed. This experience is just as important to take seriously as the physical findings.
There is no single explanation for why Induratio penis plastica occurs, but in practice I often see a combination of several factors.
Induratio penis plastica is caused by abnormal scar tissue formation in the tunica albuginea – the strong connective tissue membrane surrounding the swelling bodies. It typically occurs in response to microtrauma, small injuries that the body “repairs” inappropriately, resulting in hard and inelastic scar tissue instead of supple tissue.
Often the man can’t point to one specific injury. Many say: “I don’t remember doing anything wrong.” This is perfectly normal. Microtrauma can be small repetitive stresses that over time cause the tissue to react inappropriately.
If you recognize any of the above, it does not mean that you are to blame for your Induratio penis plastica. It means that I can work with you to look for factors that can be improved – and thereby give the body better conditions for rest, healing and function.
A large proportion of men with Induratio penis plastica develop erectile dysfunction. It can be both physical and psychological – and often a mixture that reinforce each other like a vicious spiral.
Once you start worrying before or during sex, the level of stress hormones in the body increases, which counteracts the mechanisms behind a good erection. Many people start canceling dates, withdrawing from their partner or avoiding situations where sex is an option.
That’s why it’s important to look at both the physical and the mental side of the problem – and I do this in my work with Induratio penis plastica and erectile dysfunction.
Yes, I see this on a regular basis. Pain in the penis can manifest as general tension in the pelvis. The body tries to “protect” the area by tightening up the pelvic floor and surrounding muscles.
This can cause:
With prolonged pain, the pudendal nerve – an important nerve in the pelvis – can become irritable. This can cause pain, sensory disturbances and discomfort when touching or having sex. Some men describe it as if the area is constantly “overworked” or feels extra vulnerable.
It’s complex, but that doesn’t mean you have to learn to live with it. There are treatments and strategies to calm the nervous system and relax the pelvis, allowing you to relax your body and focus less on pain.
Induratio penis plastica is not cancerous and is not contagious. But it is serious in that it can severely affect your quality of life – sexually, psychologically and in relationships.
If left untreated, the condition can:
That’s why I recommend that you seek help – not just for the curvature itself, but for the whole picture: body, sex life, thoughts and emotions. The earlier you react to signs of Induratio penis plastica, the better chance I have to influence the course in a more gentle direction.
The diagnosis of Induratio penis plastica is based on both your history and a thorough physical examination.
In the clinic, I typically work with:
Based on the findings, I will also assess whether you need additional tests or blood tests via your GP, such as tests for diabetes, cardiovascular risk or hormones. I will guide you on what you can ask for, if relevant, so you don’t have to stand alone and explain everything from scratch.
For many, it’s a relief just to put a name to the condition – to find out that the curvature has an explanation and that you are not the only one who experiences it.
I do not offer “miracle cures”, but a combined, evidence-based approach to Induratio penis plastica where the goal is to:
Treatment is always tailored to your situation: how severe your Induratio penis plastica is, how long you have had symptoms and what you want to achieve. For some, the most important thing is to be able to have intercourse without severe pain; for others, it’s about regaining desire, confidence and intimacy.
Shockwave therapy with focused sound waves is used internationally as part of treatment for both erectile dysfunction and Peyronie’s disease/Induratio penis plastica.
The sound waves are guided in a controlled manner into the area where the scar tissue is located and can:
The treatment is done from the outside, directly on the shaft of the penis, and typically lasts a few minutes per session. Most people describe it as slightly uncomfortable, but not downright painful. There is no need for anesthesia and you can go to work afterwards.
I always inform you thoroughly about what to expect and how shockwave fits into the overall plan for your Induratio penis plastica.
EMTT is a modern technology where powerful, short-term electromagnetic pulses affect tissues and cells in depth. In relation to Induratio penis plastica and related problems, EMTT can be used to:
EMTT is often combined with shockwave because the technologies work on different levels and can amplify each other’s effect. I work with you to assess whether EMTT makes sense in your particular situation or whether other measures should be prioritized.
When pain and worry have been going on for a while, the nervous system is often on alert. Neuromodulation is about influencing nerve activity – both directly through targeted stimulation and indirectly through training, breathing and behavioral strategies.
I work with:
It may sound “soft”, but it has a very real impact on pain, erection and pleasure. When you learn to regulate your body, Induratio penis plastica will no longer be the only thing on your mind and you can gradually regain control and confidence.
Induratio penis plastica never exists in a vacuum. I always look at the big picture:
The goal is not just a minor curvature on paper, but a life where you can once again be present in your body, in your sex life and in your relationships without constant worry about your Induratio penis plastica.
In some men, the pain spontaneously subsides over time and the disease enters a stable phase. However, the curvature and scar tissue rarely disappear completely on their own. Many are left with a permanent change that affects their sex life.
Early intervention can often slow progression and improve function – so it makes sense to act as soon as you notice the changes. If you experience new curvature, pain or hard areas in the shaft of the penis, it’s relevant to get it assessed, even if you hope it will “just go away”.
It varies from man to man. Many experience a reduction in curvature, while others mainly experience pain relief and improved erection, but without the penis becoming “like before”.
My focus is not only on the degree of curvature, but on:
When I treat Induratio penis plastica, success is therefore about millimeters and degrees – but just as much about living a life where the disease does not control your choices.
Surgery may be relevant in some cases with severe curvature and very pronounced discomfort – but it is a big step and not without risk of side effects, such as further shortening or altered sensation.
I do not offer surgery, but can help you get an overview of when it is relevant to discuss surgical options with a specialist urology department. For some men with Induratio penis plastica, combination therapy and exercise is enough to achieve acceptable function so that surgery can be postponed or avoided.
It depends on curvature, pain and erection quality – but very often yes. I’ll help you find it:
For many men, it’s also about “renegotiating” their sex life with their partner – getting a language for what works and what doesn’t. This is something I talk to you specifically about in the consultation, so you’re not left alone to explain it all at home.
No, it doesn’t. But I know it often feels that way.
The penis has great symbolic meaning for many men: strength, masculinity, attractiveness. When it changes, it affects more than just the body. It affects the identity.
In the clinic, there is room for both professionalism and the heavy emotions. You will be treated as a whole person – not just as “a penis with problems”. Induratio penis plastica does not change your value as a man, partner or human being, and it is an important part of the process to get that experience under your skin.
A typical course of Induratio penis plastica at MS Insight starts with a thorough initial consultation. Here:
The plan can consist of a combination of focused shockwave therapy, EMTT, neuromodulation, exercises, lifestyle adjustments and specific advice on sex and performance. I can also help you coordinate with your GP or other specialists if relevant.
The program is continuously adapted – the most important thing is that you feel that something meaningful is happening and that you are not alone. You can ask all the questions you need to ask, even those you may not have said out loud to anyone before.
If you recognize yourself in anything you’ve read here, you’re already taking responsibility for your body and your sexuality. Induratio penis plastica is neither rare nor shameful – but it requires that you dare to reach out.
I offer specialized assessment and treatment of men with Induratio penis plastica, erectile dysfunction, pelvic pain and other intimate issues – with both professional gravitas and respect for the fact that this is sensitive material.

Are you unsure about what’s causing your symptoms, or whether a specialized treatment program at our clinic in Copenhagen would be right for you? If so, you can start with a brief, confidential consultation. During this consultation, we’ll assess whether your symptoms align with the areas I specialize in at MS Insight and determine what the next appropriate step might be.
The clarifying conversation is not a full consultation, diagnosis or treatment plan. It’s for those who want a serious assessment of whether it makes sense to proceed with a more thorough examination, ultrasound scan and individual plan.
The clinic is a private clinic offering an alternative treatment setup to the public system with shockwave, EMTT and NESA X for sexual dysfunctions and especially erectile dysfunction, peyronies and pelvic pain.
