The curvature can go upwards, downwards or sideways and can vary greatly in degree. <\/p><p>In some men, the curvature is due to a congenital anatomical variation. It typically appears from adolescence and does not change significantly over time. In others, the curvature develops later in life, often along with pain, plaque, shortening or altered erection. In these cases, it may be Peyronie&#8217;s disease.   <\/p><p>Curvature is therefore not a single diagnosis. It is a description of a curvature that must be understood in the context of development, pain, erection and function. <\/p><h2>When should a curved penis be assessed?<\/h2><p>A curved penis should be assessed when it affects your function or when there are signs that something has changed.<\/p><p>This is especially true if:<\/p><ul><li>The curvature is new or becoming more pronounced.<\/li><li>You have pain with erection.<\/li><li>You feel a hard area or plaque.<\/li><li>The penis has become notched or hourglass shaped.<\/li><li>Intercourse has become difficult.<\/li><li>The erection has become less stable.<\/li><li>You are unsure if treatment or surgery might be relevant.<\/li><\/ul><p>It&#8217;s not necessarily a sign that you need treatment.
